Green grenade emblem?

  • SarahPowell by SarahPowell

I'm tagging orders from the 24th Royal Fusiliers and at http://talk.operationwardiary.org/#/subjects/AWD000132i there is a note to say 'Coy Cmders will see that all NCOs and men have the Green Grenade sewn on their tunics as soon as possible'. Was this the emblem of the battalion?

I've been hoping someone more knowledgeable than me would post here! The only thing i can suggest is that of course the Fusiliers' cap badge is a bursting grenade. There's a thread on the Great War Forum which does mention the 24th and talks about shoulder titles but nothing about a "green grenade". http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=187622

I've started a new thread there to see if anyone knows!

And two answers, including a picture within minutes! GWF really is the place to go to get the experts on this kind of thing. http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=217233

Seems to have been a green felt badge shaped like a grenade which was sewn on the back of the tunic.
