  Owing to rapid advance & smoke from bombardment, the gain of enemy's third line & part of their second line had to be abandoned.

  #friendly fire caused abandonment of German 3rd & part of 2nd line. i.e. rapid & successful attack failed due to poor visibility & shelling.
