    Only "Dixie's" I have come across are large water containers.No idea if this has anything to do with them though. Interesting nevertheless.

    Dixie was a sealed container used to carry hot food,best carried by 2 men,in my time they were transported in the back of landrovers.

    We also had our own dixies that we carried in our webbing,some called them mess tins.we cooked and eat form dixies aka mess tins.

    Never heard mess tins called Dixies. We called the sealed containers "hay boxes". Dixies were large containers with lids used for cooking
