Sjt William Henry Johnson VC

  Today is the centenary of the VC action of Sjt William Henry Johnson, 1/5th Sherwood Foresters. The battalion war diary wasn't particularly forthcoming, but the brigade HQ diary gave a bit more info on the attack carried out that day, and info is included in the post I've written for The National Archives' blog today https://blog.nationalarchives.gov.uk/blog/tommys-war-w-h-johnson-bellringer-vc/ . He is also the only bellringer known to have won the VC, his memorial stone will be unveiled in Worksop today, and both churches with bells in Worksop will be hosting peal attempts.
