    Interesting article re award of Victoria Cross to Private W B Butler of the 17th West Yorkshire Regiment. (VC Issue No. 853). For most conspicuous bravery 6th August 1917. East of Lempire, France. He joined the 15th Btn West Yorkshire Regiment from leave on 20 Dec 1917.

    This diary page entry for him is torn and faint at the bottom but it seems to *read:

    “20 Dec 1917: “No. 17/1280 Private W B Butler VC returned from leave to England, where he was awarded the Victoria Cross by HM The King and joined this Btn (15th West Yorkshire Regiment) from the 17th Btn West Yorkshire Regiment, where he had previously served”.
