Barter’s Force – Carey’s Force has been mentioned, so I thought I would mention Barter’s Force.

Barter’s force is mentioned in this page link: https://talk.operationwardiary.org/#/subjects/AWD0003397
Major General Charles St Leger Barter (Barter’s Force). Photograph and also article regarding High Wood. Paradoxically, the capture of High Wood terminated Barter's military career. Soon after the battle, 'at an hour's notice', he was charged with 'wanton waste of men' and dismissed. An interesting account of events. See Link:

High Wood remains largely untouched, and as stated in the article the remains of many men, German and British still lie here.
I believe a Frenchman now owns High Wood and the public are deterred from going in.. (As I posted in the Talk of the War Diary a long time ago).

Actually when I tag diaries and High Wood is mentioned I think, please don’t go in there and in one of the diaries I tagged, the troops in that area did not go in. I was relieved about that!

Thanks Marie. I hadn't heard the story of General Barter's dismissal.
The fighting in all the woods around there was ferocious, but High Wood held out by far the longest. I'm glad the troops you were tagging were able to avoid it.
