    An interesting entry from the 1st Field Ambulance was entered into their diary on 11 Sep, 1916. On that day it was noted that the unit had, over the past 27 days, processed 5,253 cases and had 31 casualties including 12 dead.

    Thanks, @tredegar. These summaries really make clear the volume of cases the medical staff had to deal with. And of course the casualty figures remind us that the RAMC men often found themselves in extremely dangerous areas.

    Another entry placed at the end of September, 1916 also showed that they treated 2529 cases in a period of 7 days time.

    Several of the Somme offensives took place during September 1916. If the numbers of casualties at the main Field Ambulance section were high, you can only imagine what the advance dressing stations were dealing with.
