One of the authors/lieutenants in the diary I have been tagging (34th Brigade, RFA) is 2nd Lt DM Coffin - quite an unusual name. I decided to look him up using my subscription to Ancestry.co.uk (I am a keen amateur genealogist). Not only did I locate his medal card giving me his full name, Daniel Morison Coffin, but I also found a wonderful photograph of him in uniform complete with waxed moustache! It appears he was born in New York, NY. I'm pleased to discover he survived the war, dying in Dorset in the 19040's.

There was another military family with the even better double barrelled name Pine-Coffin!
