Dumped Personnel...

  • Maria64 by Maria64

I've just popped back from 1918 where I'm with the 14 Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment and I've come across this term, ''Dumped Personnel exchanged'', for the second time in two pages.
Is this something to do with seriously ill or immobile casualties being left at a point or base because they're not near a field hospital etc., while the unit is otherwise engaged during an attack or other activity, and they are then reclaimed by the unit afterwards?
    Any thoughts gratefully received.
    Regards,
    Maria.

I don't know the answer, but it helps with this kind of query if you can either give us a link to the page like this http://talk.operationwardiary.org/#/subjects/AWD00018zg or start the discussion by clicking on "Discuss this page on Talk" in the comments box. Then people can see the comment in context.

    Hi folks,
Just wondered whether anyone had any thoughts on the meaning of the term ''Dumped Personnel''? I just had another page which might give a better clue where it says, ''THE DUMPED PERSONNEL AND OTHER CASUALS ARE FORMED INTO A DEPOT...''
    Any thoughts welcome. Maria

In context I wonder if it's the personnel who had been chosen to be "left out of battle", a small proportion of the battalion were held back so as to be used in helping to re-form the unit if major casualties were suffered?
