Interesting Article concerning 1 Div. 409 Field Coy RE who assisted the 2nd Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment at Lock No 1, Bois de l'Abbaye: 4th November 1918.
‘The commander of the 409th Field Company RE, himself wounded in the action, was also awarded the Victoria Cross. Major George de Cardonnel Elmsall Findlay MC was born in 1889, and had previously been decorated at Passchendaele’.

Interesting article of Wilfred Owen the Poet) killed in Action.
The Sambre-Oise Canal at Ors (Looking North) Wilfred Owen the Poet) killed in Action. See Photo: Wilfred Owen and his "D" Company of the 2nd Bn. Manchester Regiment, lined the bank ready to attempt a crossing of the canal and then to attack the Germans holding the opposite bank (attacking left to right on the photograph). Wilfred Owen did not survive. Somewhere on the bank in this picture he was killed. His friend 2nd Lt. Foulkes, who was wounded in the attack, said that Owen was last seen trying to cross the canal on a raft under very heavy gunfire.
