This article http://www.iwm.org.uk/history/5-facts-about-camouflage-in-the-first-world-war from the Imperial War Museum has an interesting photo of a workshop where dummy heads were made.
And I noticed on the diary page that the 9th R.I.F. were not deceived by the dummies!
