Smoking Concert. Christmas Day Dec 1915 - 9th Btn Royal Irish Fusiliers

Smoking Concert. First time I have come across an entry for this type of concert. On Christmas Day 1915 in the diary of the 9th Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers. They were live performances, usually of music, before an audience of men only. Link: https://talk.operationwardiary.org/#/subjects/AWD0003ew6

I've seen several references to these concerts, almost always to do with Christmas or New Year's. I recall one where the sergeants had organized it for the officers at Christmas.

I think I remember that too. Can't remember which diary it was.

A Smoking Concert, or just smoker was a very common thing at the time. At home, often a bit of a fundraiser, maybe to buy bits and pieces, "Comforts", to send out to the troops.
