Possible #story #dailyzoo - Railway Accident at Leerbeek, Belgium – 19th November 1918. 7th Cavalry Field Ambulance Assisting.

A Belgian motor cyclist reported a civilian railway smash at Leerbeek, Belgium on 19th November 1918. Captain Thomson, (RAMC) 7 Cavalry Field Ambulance with medical personnel and transport went to Leerbeek Village. He reported the railway smash resulted from the engine jumping the rails on a curve, leading carriages smashed to matchwood, ensuing carriages telescoped. The Injured numbered approximately 40, including a Belgian Officer and 4 repatriated Italian Prisoners of War. On the arrival of Captain Thomson, all the injured had been placed in station building and civilian houses. This work of clearance had been done by troops of Captain Beles’ Squadron 17th Lancers. Injuries chiefly fractures lower limbs, 4 cases fractured femurs.

Captain Thomson and party received valuable assistance in treating injured from troops of 17 Lancers and Captain Hill. Some assistance was latterly received from French and Belgian doctors and medical personnel. Captain Thomson asked the Stationmaster at Leerbeek for 2 special carriages to clear remaining cases. This Request was complied with. Link: http://talk.operationwardiary.org/#/subjects/AWD0001tu4
