  The disease V.O.H (or perhaps V.D.H) appears once in the diary without further explanation. Anyone know what disease this is ? I have tagged it as #voh

  Done some more research and discovered that it is VDH - valvular disease of the heart ! This should have been detected at the medical examination at attestation and the soldier declared unfit for service. Now hashtagged as #vdh !

  I was confused by CSM - not Company Sergeant Major but cerebrospinal meningitis I assume. I shall hashtag it as #meningitis not #csm.

  Yes, I don't think Company Sergeant Majors were infectious! 😄
