    "The ship's gunner has been instructing all Gurkha officers in..." I could swear that says "knitting", which doesn't seem completely outside the realm of possibility, but why would the gunner be teaching that?

    I think it's 'knotting and lashing' - the Navy always knows the best ways to secure things with ropes 😄
