Dumping Helmets/Damping Helmets?

  Does anybody have any idea what a demonstration on 'dumping helmets' might have been?

  Or is it perhaps 'damping helmets' - some sort of gas protector, maybe?

  I think it says damping not dumping. This was before the general introduction of metal helmets so it might be talking about "damping" as in reducing the impact from bullets/shrapnel? Mind you gas protection is equally plausible!
