  I'm not sure about the word implements! But the diarist does put the dot over his "i" some way to the right elsewhere on the page and he may have spelled it "impliments". Anyone else like to guess!

  I go with implements, too. I just tagged this diary not long ago and it seems to me that there were several comments about a shortage or lack of availability of shovels and picks.
