Yes, that's the diary I am working on. Just tagged the page with the message on and the next page is 17-26th July. As Author said first page of diary would come at the end of July 1916,

I don't think that message is actually from the author. It was added sometime later, possibly by the National Archives when a copy was being made for someone.

Cynthia, I agree with you about that. I think there were 2 copies made of the War diaries. 1 to War Office and 1 with Regiment/Battalion concerned.
