Complete roll of unit - diary page, report or other?

  • charcinders by charcinders

I just came across what I think is the first page of a complete roll of the officers and men of my unit on embarkation for France, including names, ranks and numbers. Fortunately it's a cavalry squadron not an infantry regiment!

    How should I classify this?

    Edit:
Just looked more closely and it has wounded / killed entries for some men which have been added later, with dates going into 1915. Also promotions, commendations, etc. It's basically a logbook.

It would normally be described as a nominal roll. This is possibly a missing page type, they are relatively rare, but are obviously of great interest to researchers when they do exist.

OK, will do it as diary pages, it would be a shame not to log all that information.

Please also use the #nominalroll hashtag to note these pages. Thanks!
