"Q"?

Who is this mysterious "Q"? Is this a standard abbreviation for a rank of some sort, or an actual code name?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staff_(military)#British_.2F_Commonwealth_staff
"Up until 1984, when it began to use the continental or NATO system, the UK operated its own system, with three branches:
G Branch. The General branch, responsible for operations, intelligence and training. A Branch. The Administration branch, responsible for all aspects of personnel management. Q Branch. The Quartermaster branch, responsible for logistic and equipment support.
"
Found this out when trying to figure out who the letters from "G Branch" were from.

Ah, thank you! I thought it might be Quartermaster given the orders Q was issuing.
