What is 'Salvage,' with pound amounts, by Coy?

Salvage work is collecting debris from the battlefield or other areas where the unit was that could be useful. During the war, the army salvaged wood from shelled buildings, metal scraps, etc. and reused them where they were or sent them to England to be reused in new ammunition.

During the summer and fall of 1918, as the Germans retreated they left quite a bit of material behind and the British collected it as they moved forward. So, here, the machine gun corps are doing the work of collecting it.

You can tag it as Other under the Unit Activity tag and put #salvage in the Comments box.
