Capt. David Thomas Crichton Frew

Another interesting story about an officer. I googled him to try to determine if his surname was just Frew or actually Crichton Frew. What I found was, apart from the fact that his surname is just Frew, is that although he died during the war, it was not from being killed in action or even dying from wounds. He died in England after an operation for appendicitis in September, 1916. http://universitystory.gla.ac.uk/ww1-biography/?id=755
Although the article refers to him as captain, at this point (on the diary page) he is a lieutenant and has just joined the 7th Field Ambulance. According to the article, he will be wounded in the next few days, but apparently recover to become a captain and Medical Officer to the London Rifle Brigade before succumbing to the effects of the operation.

I have just reached the page where his being wounded is mentioned. Apparently it happened in the first week of October and was so slight he remained at duty.
