While trying to discover Lt. Whitridge's (5:35 pm entry) first name, I came across this article about him: http://roadstothegreatwar-ww1.blogspot.com/2017/01/arnold-whitridge-scholar-and-veteran-of.html He was an American who was a student at Oxford in 1914. He joined the Royal Artillery in 1914, but eventually ended up in the US Army as a captain and eventually a major.
I am reasonably sure that this is the same Lt. Whitridge noted on this diary page. He was the only officer with a surname of Whitridge in the Royal Artillery, according to Lives of the First World War.
