Why does an Ammunition Column have Gunners and Bombardiers? I haven't thought of them as an offensive unit- maybe for defense if they get attacked?

The ammunition column was part of the artillery, so the men assigned to it held the usual artillery ranks. Hence Gunner and Bombardier.
It looks like this one also had several Indian Army soldiers attached.
