That's really interesting! I believe that the food supplies were not particularly good, as I recall from a supply column diary I tagged a while ago. I'm not sure where the British troops food came from at that point, but I do know there was a shortage of food in general in Germany. That was one of the reasons for the collapse of their war effort.
