    To answer the question you posed in the comment box, those units of the British army that made up the occupation army remained in Germany for several months into 1919. They did not all return to the UK at the same time with some leaving as early as April and others staying into the fall of 1919.

    A mobile veterinary unit would have stayed until its division returned to the UK because horses still played a role in transport and as officers' chargers. As long as any horses were in Germany, a vet unit was necessary, too.

    And the end of war for official purposes was actually not until 1921. As discussed elsewhere on the forums recently the armistice did not end the war as such, it merely stopped the fighting.
