    They were probably making changes to the way things were organised in the Battalion. In one diary I tagged they re-organised the Battalion by changing it to 3 Companies instead of 4 but included a Machine gun company

    Reorganizing took place after major attacks or any other event, such as the enemy releasing gas, that caused a large number of casualties. The men remaining may have been redistributed so that the companies were more or less equal in size, or even arranged into three companies.

    It also occurred when, as happened with many of these Irish battalions we have right now, two battalions were amalgamated because there were not enough reinforcements to build them back up to fighting strength.

    In this case, the battalion received a couple of drafts, one of them of 434 men. Reorganizing would entail posting those new men among the existing companies.
