Tagging a private diary

  • Stork by Stork

When a diary suddenly switches to a report from a member of the unit, like the two here, should #privatediary be used? Some of these are 4 or 5 pages long.

The page that is here sounds like an official report rather than a private diary. It was likely included in the diary as a means of including the information about the operations described. If it does contain information that is not included in the diary, especially names of the men involved in the operations, the page should be tagged as a Report. If the first report starts in the middle of a diary page you can't really switch over to Report right there, but you can indicate that a report begins at such-and-such a line in the comments box.

The first two lines sound like 2/Lt. Walton wrote a report about something where there might be a controversy as he attests to the accuracy of the facts.

Private diaries would most likely be added at the end of the month's diary as an appendix. Sometimes you just have to use your judgment based on the tone or formality/informality of the language to decide. Certainly any time you are sure that any page is from a private diary, using the hashtag is helpful.
