On this page I read twice J. :sapper Cheeseman J. (at the top of the page) and sapper Hill W.J. (at the bottom)) but in Lo1WW it's respectively Thomas and Walter T.?

The two letters you have read as a J are both actually T. Very much like I write an uppercase T in cursive.
For comparison, three rows above Sapper Hill is a Sapper Johnson where you can see how the author wrote an uppercase J.
