In the Field

The author of this diary keeps his Coy 'in the Field' (ditto) though on April 1st he writes that the Coy went in to billets in the village Moislains. And on the next page he persevered in being 'in the Field'.

When "In the Field" was used this way, it meant the unit wasn't at their base. So they could be in billets somewhere or literally in the field camping with tents.

Some diaries use this on every page and never put an actual place name in that column. There's no real way to tag it, unless the diary states specifically that the unit is in the line, in support, or in reserve.
