When one search for a name in Lo1WW you can choose a regiment. But what with a member of a MGC which is a part of a infantry Brigade which on his turn, consists of various battalions or regiments? Or am I completely mistaken.

On Lives of the First World War all the machine gun companies are pooled together under Machine Gun Corps. It's the same way with the Royal Field Artillery, Royal Horse Artillery, and Royal Garrison Artillery. Unless you have a man's name or service number, it's difficult to search for them.
I just did a search for 23rd Machine Gun Company. Three names came up, all of whom have both 23rd and Machine Gun on their page, but not together.
