What do I do when the writing in a diary is so faint that I am having trouble reading it. It is very hard to classify. Thanks for your input

Hello, you can only tag what you can read. .

Perhaps this information will help you when reading faint pages:

Help for reading faint pages Chrome contrast tool - on link: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/sheen/mopkplcglehjfbedbngcglkmajhflnjk

If you use this Chrome tool, it will appear in the top right hand corner of your screen. When you put the mouse pointer over this red coloured circle, it will show the message - "Apply Visual Filter". When installed you can also zoom in and out on its filter settings. A zoom button also appears on the right hand side of each diary page which you have probably seen.

If you go to Discussion Boards. Mess Hall/Useful Tips you will find useful tips for tagging diaries.

By the way about 5 people tag each diary page, so perhaps what you cannot read, will probably be deciphered by others.

Also, you can also leave the diary you are tagging, if you want to and tag another diary.

If you new to this project, you will find everyone very helpful if you have a query. 😃

One of the challenges of our project is deciphering the handwriting! When it is faint, that challenge is compounded. Just do what you can. As Marie says above, if you can't decipher or see a particular page, another one of the five people who tag each page might be able to. Also, we've all had to accept that there some bits of these diaries that we won't be able to tag at all.

If you are new to our project, you will probably find that as you go along, you'll become more familiar with place names and terminology and be able to read words you couldn't decipher at the beginning.

    We're always here to help!
