    I read it as M.31.2.8 but there is a very faint entry underneath this mentioning c. So maybe it could be M.31.c.2.8

    I think it is M.31.c.2.8, too. The c is clear, and the bit before it looks like it might say sect.

    Rob, on the following page ( https://talk.operationwardiary.org/#/subjects/AWD0003s20 ) , on August 22th, there are similar "gridreferences" without a, b,c or d. When I looked again at the first page, I could decipher the "c" beneath M.31.28. It is not one "c", but it is "NCC", probably the initials of someone who approves the input of the author. That doesn't solve the question of the grids however. maybe the artillery used other plans?

    If they are grid references, they're certainly in abbreviated form. I wonder if they were using one of the 1:5000 maps or something similar.
