  Interpreter fell off his horse. Strange this is mentioned; I suppose falling off a horse was not so unusual when one reads the chapter "all the lovely horses" in "Where poppies blow".

  I think it is mentioned because the unit is now without an interpreter.

  I recall that several cavalry officers in various diaries fell off their horses, often while jumping. I think there was one who died from the injury, or at least was unfit for duty after that.
