I know what a corduroy road is, but what kind of road are they repairing on December 12th? A brushwood road?

Hard to read this negative but on the 12th- Maybe Repairing and widening the Dranoutre-Lindenhoek Road

14th: From what I can make out, hard to read - It seems they continued to repair the trenches and 1 section worked at the repair of the Brushwood Road. Also mentions they were handicapped owing to shortage of materials.

You said you knew what a Corduoy Road was - here is an explanation for others re a Corduroy Road in the following article with photos.

“A Corduroy road or log road is a type of road made by placing sand-covered logs perpendicular to the direction of the road"

I think that is a brushwood road they are repairing. I can't find anything on google except a book that indicates this would have been bundles of brushwood laid close together probably across ground that was damp or marshy, which of course describes Flanders exactly. It sounds like it would have been used primarily for foot traffic, such as troops marching to and from the line.

I agree with Marie that in the first line they are repairing and widening the road.

Brushwood consists of small pieces of wood that have broken off trees and bushes. In the diary they stated they had run out of material when repairing the Brushwood Road, probably not enough small pieces of wood left from broken trees and bushes.
