entraining

On October 7th the four sections and the Coy HQ marched off from Bethisy on different times and then entrained in three different places, two of which I can't find in Google. (I think Le Meuse should be Le Meux and Pont la Maxence could be Pont Sainte Maxence). Why do the sections entrain in different places?

Question was answered on the next page. They joined at Millencourt.

Just in general terms, sometimes the companies or sections of a battalion or field company or other units might be on different trains because there was space available for only a small group. Rather than wait for a train that could accommodate the whole unit, this was a more efficient way to move them, especially when time was an important factor.

Unit's also took up quite a bit of space on the roads, so depending what else was going on it might make better use of all available means of transport.
