I think this may be pearlite. i.e. (1 charge of 141 lbs pearlite) If you are referring to the entry against the 21st).

    Mentioned in an article, i.e.

...Explosive filler, if used at all, was very small (4% or less in WWI and 3% or less in ...... PEARLITE: Crystal always containing 0.8% Carbon--in the form of 88.1% ...

It is perlite, a naturally occurring volcanic glass that is used as a filler in some explosives, among its other uses. Here's a bit of an explanation: http://www.perlite.com/Why Perlite_Works.pdf It's also used now in agriculture; when I googled it, the first things up were packages of potting soil.

Pearlite, with the a, is a type of steel structure that is used to make wires, cutting tools, and nails. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearlite

I didn't see Marie's reference, but it may be an alternative spelling.

Could not put a link to my comment reference where the article was, because system would not let me access the page link again.

Thank you! Perlite seemed a most unlikely component of explosives to me so I skimmed over it!
