Any idea why a field company did not stay till the job was done?

I read it as: 2 Sections of the 26th Field Coy RE, relieved the above 2 sections on work at Army Headquarters, Villers Carbonnel. These 2 sections left Brie in cars to billets at Mericourt.

(The 2 Sections of the 26 Field Coy RE taking over the work, from the 2 sections who had been working on Army HQ.which who had left for billets in Mericourt).

I think it was probably for either one of these two possible reasons. One is that those two sections were due for a rest and Mericourt-sur-Somme was further back from the line. Or two, they were being pulled out in order to assign them to another project where they had particular experience or expertise.

The 26th Field Coy. was another one of the 1st Division Field Coys. It is not unusual to see that they help each other out.
