Erik, here is an image of Camouflaged British 4.5 inch field howitzers, at Arras April 1917 and an article. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QF_4.5-inch_howitzer
Also, a field howitzer is a howitzer that is mobile enough to accompany a field army on campaign. It is, invariably, provided with a wheeled carriage of some sort.

Yes, the 4.5-inch Howitzer was a field Howitzer, according to this article http://www.westernfrontassociation.com/the-great-war/great-war-on-land/weapons-equipment-uniform/2562-artillery-and-the-british-expeditionary-force-on-the-western-front.html (I think Rob may have already posted this link in another thread.)
It is listed here as a quick-firing 4.5-inch Mark I field howitzer. If you look at the photo Marie linked to, you can see it is a relatively small gun.
