On the 7th line 2nd Nov I can decypher Stanley, but not what stays in front of it. Normally it must be his rank: major?

I think you're right, Erik. It looks like Major Stanley to me. I can find four possibilities on Lives. Perhaps there will be more detail later in the diary.
