Cynthia, thanks for deciphering Balcombe. In the Gazette https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/29017/supplement/11029 one mentions also Horse Artillery regarding a Balcombe-Brown , but it is not Major Rainsford Malcombe Brown, but 2nd lt William E. Balcombe-Brown.
