    That's a very good question, and I'm afraid I have no idea how to answer it! 😄

    All I can find is something that looks as if it's some kind of horse race, but it's not clear whether that's what's being referred to here.

    Any other ideas, anybody?

    Yes, that's what I came up with too, but I'm not sure...it's difficult to work out exactly why the Royal Sussex Regiment would have been following an ancient Japanese tradition. Not that it's impossible, of course, just curious...
